Sony, the game changer

Sony announced three cameras in the 24MP range – all of them in APS-C sized sensors. The most interesting to me (for now at least), is the Alpha A77.

Some important specs:

  • 24.3MP APS-C sized Sensor
  • Fully weather sealed
  • No mirrors – less vibration (It uses a translucent mirror – this is not a DSLR!)
  • Fully manual video AVCHD 2.0 at 24p (up to 60p)
  • 12fps continuous shooting
  • ISO up to 16000
  • EVF (no optical viewfinder)
  • Tilt and Swivel LCD screen
  • Only approx. $1,400 body
  • Only approx. $2,000 with 16-50mm f2.8 lens
What Sony has done is taken a huge bite out of Canon’s monopoly in the HDSLR market. Very soon, Canon and Nikon might announce their new FF cameras. It doesn’t get any better than this!
